PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
This guideline has been prepared to define the standards regarding the preparation, submission, and evaluation processes of papers to be submitted to the 11th Urban Studies Congress, which will be held in Ankara on 12–13–14 October 2026. The guideline aims to enhance the scientific quality of the submissions and to ensure that the evaluation process is conducted in a transparent manner.
2.Kongre Katılım ve Yayın şartı
a) Participation Requirements
- Yazarların, bildirilerinin kabul edilerek “Bildiri Özet Kitabı”nda yayımlanabilmesi için kongreye yüz yüze veya online olarak bildirilerini sunarak katılım sağlamaları zorunludur.
b) Registration and Participation Fees
- Registration Process:Kongreye katılım ücretlidir ve ücretlendirme bildiri başına alınmaktadır. Aşağıdaki tablodan ayrıntılı incelenebilir.

c) Publication Conditions
• Papers that pass the peer-review process and are presented will be published as outlined in the “Publication Process” section of the Congress.
• In order for papers to be published, authors must fulfill the required statements and conditions, including:
o Copyright Transfer
o Ethical Statement
o Conflict of Interest Statement
o Author Contribution Statement
3.1. General Principles

Kongremize başvurular özet bildiriler üzerinden alınmaktadır.
Katılımcıların, CMT sistemi üzerinden açılan bildiri özet gönderim alanınıeksiksiz doldurarak, minimum 500, maksimum 750 kelime uzunluğundaki özetlerini sistemde açılan alana doğrudan yazmaları gerekmektedir.
Bilim Kurulu ve Düzenleme Kurulu tarafından değerlendirilen özetler sonucunda kabul alan başvuru sahipleri kongre kayıtlarını tamamladıktan sonra kongre programına alınacaktır.
3.2 Important Dates

• Announcement of evaluation results:•27 July 2026
• Final registration deadline:7 September 2026
• Announcement of the Congress program:14 September 2026
3.3 Language
- Kongrenin resmi dilleri Türkçe ve İngilizce’dir.
- Kongremizde bildiri teslimleri ve sunumlar, çalışmanın hazırlandığı dilde gerçekleştirilecektir. CMT sistemi üzerindeki başvuru alanlarının (başlık, özet ve anahtar kelimeler) çalışmanın diliyle uyumlu olarak doldurulması gerekmektedir. Başvuru sürecinde herhangi bir ek dil veya çeviri zorunluluğu bulunmamaktadır.
- Gönderilen bildirilerde, dilbilgisi ve yazım hatalarının olmaması önem arz etmektedir. Bu nedenle, yazarların bildiri özetlerini ve sonrasında yayınlanması planlanan bildiri kitabı için gönderecekleri bildiri tam metinlerini sisteme yüklemeden önce profesyonel bir dil düzenleme hizmeti almaları veya ana dili İngilizce olan bir akademisyen tarafından gözden geçirmeleri tavsiye edilir.
- Bilimsel bir üslup tercih edilmeli, gereksiz uzun ve karmaşık ifadelerden kaçınılmalıdır. Metinler, açık, net ve akademik yazım kurallarına uygun şekilde hazırlanmalıdır.
- Writing should be clear, concise, and in accordance with academic standards.

3.4 Responsibilities of the Corresponding Author
- Tüm yazarların listeye dahil edildiğinden ve bildirinin son halini onayladıklarından emin olmak.
- Gerekli iletişimi sağlamak ve revizyon süreçlerini yönetmek.
4.1. File Format
• Abstracts must be prepared in accordance with the guidelines and should be between 500–750 words. Abstracts must be entered into the designated fields in the CMT system.
4.2. Page Layout
Since abstracts are submitted via the CMT system, there is no page layout requirement. Full papers must be uploaded using the prepared template. The general features of this template are as follows:
• Paper size: A4 (21 x 29.7 cm)
• Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides (top, bottom, left, right)
• Font: Palatino Linotype
• Font size: 12 pt (Headings), 11 pt (Main text), 9 pt (Abstract and footnotes)
4.3. Title Information
• The title should reflect the content of the study and must be written in Palatino Linotype, 12 pt, bold, and centered.
• The title must be written in uppercase letters (except conjunctions), bold, and centered.
•If the submitted abstract is derived from a graduate thesis, this should be indicated with a footnote attached to the title.
• If applicable, sponsors of the study should be indicated with a footnote attached to the title on the first page.
4.4. Author Information
Important: When entering the abstract into the system, author information should be provided only in the designated fields according to the number of authors. Author information will be added to the text after the abstract is accepted. Author information must be included according to the following steps:
• In the full paper, the name(s) and surname(s) of the author(s) must be written below the title, in 11 pt font size, centered on the page, and in Palatino Linotype.
• Only the first letters of names and surnames should be capitalized.
• The title, institution, e-mail, and ORCID information of the author(s) must be added as a footnote next to the name and presented in the specified order.
• Authors are required to include ORCID information in their studies. ORCID registration can be completed at https://orcid.org/register
4.5 Abstract and Keywords
• Abstracts must include a structured text of 500–750 words on the first page, below the title, in accordance with the format specified below.
- Türkçe sunulacak çalışmalarda Türkçe başlık, Türkçe özet ve Türkçe anahtar kelimeler, İngilizce sunulacak çalışmalarda ise İngilizce başlık, İngilizce özet ve İngilizce anahtar kelimeler sırayla yer almalıdır.
• The abstract heading must be written in 12 pt, bold, left-aligned, and with only the first letters capitalized.
• A spacing of 12 nk before and 6 nk after must be left, and the line spacing must be set to multiple, with a value of 1.15.
• Abstracts must be written in single line spacing, in Palatino Linotype font, 10 pt size, and justified.
• The abstract must objectively express the purpose, method, findings, and originality of the study.
• The abstract text must not include figures, images, tables, references, or author information.
•Özetin altında, bildiriye uygun ve çalışmanın bütününü yansıtan en az 3, en fazla 5 kavram, anahtar kelime olarak yazılmalıdır.
4.6. Full Paper
Acceptance of the abstract is sufficient for presentation at the Congress. Full paper submission is not required at this stage. Participants who wish may submit their full papers for publication in the “Proceedings Book” to be prepared after the Congress.
4.7. Statements
The following statements must be included in the specified sections when submitting both abstracts and full papers (in Turkish and English):
• Acknowledgement Statement (if any):Individuals who contributed to the preparation of the study but are not included in the list of authors (such as technical support providers, language editors, statistical experts, etc.) may be acknowledged. Example: “We would like to thank [name] for their support in the realization of this study.”
• Conflict of Interest Statement:All authors must clearly declare whether there is any conflict of interest that may affect their work. Example: “The authors declare that there is no financial or personal conflict of interest related to this study.”
• Author Contribution Statement:The contribution of each author to the study must be specified. Example: “[Author Name] designed the study. [Author Name] conducted data collection and analysis. [Author Name] contributed to the writing of the manuscript.”
• Ethical Approval Statement:It must be stated that the study was conducted in accordance with ethical standards. Example: “This study was conducted in accordance with ethical standards.”
• Funding and Acknowledgment of Support (if applicable):The funding institution may be indicated. Example: “This study was supported by [Funding Institution] under project number [XXXX].”
4.8 Sections and Subheadings
•It is not expected to use numbered subheadings in abstracts.
4.9 Figures, Diagrams, and Tables
•Figures, images, tables, references, and author information must not be included in the abstract text.
4.10 References
•References are not expected in abstract texts.
• Papers will be evaluated through a double-blind peer review system at our Congress. In this process, the identities of authors and reviewers will be kept confidential.
• Reviewers will evaluate the papers based on originality, scientific contribution, methodological adequacy, presentation of findings, and quality of writing.
• As a result of the peer-review process, papers may be concluded as “accepted,”“rejected,”or “revision required.”

The Urban Studies Congress 2026 is planned as a hybrid event. It will be conducted both in person and online. The process will be planned according to which option the authors of accepted papers prefer for presenting their work.
a. Presentation Duration and Format
• Oral presentations will be conducted in a format of a maximum of 15 minutes presentation + 5 minutes question–answer session. The duration may be adjusted by the session chair depending on the session intensity.
• Presentations must be prepared in PowerPoint format and should be compatible with the devices recommended by the technical team.
b. Technical Requirements
•Presentation files must be submitted to the control desk 90 minutes before the session begins.
• Presentations must be prepared in a 16:9 screen ratio.
•Visuals must be in high resolution (minimum 300 DPI), and font sizes should be selected to be readable from the back rows.
a. Originality and Author Responsibility
• The originality of the papers is entirely the responsibility of the authors.
• By submitting their papers to our Congress, authors are deemed to declare that these works are original, have not been previously published, and have not been submitted or presented elsewhere.
b) Anti-Plagiarism and Copying Policy
• Our Congress does not tolerate any form of unethical copying or plagiarism under any circumstances.
• In this context, authors may not partially or completely quote even their own work without proper citation.
c. Plagiarism Check
• Papers must be checked through plagiarism detection software such as Turnitin or iThenticate before submission.
•The plagiarism rate must be below 20%. Studies with high similarity rates will not be considered for evaluation.
d) Author Statements
• All authors must include the following statements in their papers:
• Author Contribution Statement:The contributions of each author to the study must be clearly stated.
• Conflict of Interest Statement: It must be clearly stated whether the study involves any commercial or financial conflict of interest.
• Ethical Statement:It must be stated that the study was conducted in accordance with relevant ethical rules.
e) Actions Considered as Plagiarism
• As defined by IEEE, plagiarism is defined as “the use of another person’s ideas, processes, results, algorithms, or words without explicitly acknowledging the original author or source.”
• Copying another author’s work verbatim.
• Rewriting another author’s text while preserving the same meaning (paraphrasing).
• Using data or findings obtained from another study without proper citation.
• Including any content generated by artificial intelligence in the paper text.
f.Compliance with COPE Guidelines
All ethical processes in our Congress are conducted in accordance with the principles of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). In this context, authors, reviewers, and editors have the following ethical responsibilities:
Responsibilities of Authors:
• Authors are obliged to declare that the submitted work is original, has not been previously published, and has not been under consideration elsewhere.
• The contribution of all authors involved in the study must be clearly stated, and individuals who have not contributed must not be listed as authors.
• Any conflict of interest in the study must be clearly declared.
• Authors must obtain the necessary ethical approvals for their research and declare that the study complies with ethical standards.
Responsibilities of Reviewers:
• Reviewers must be impartial during the evaluation process and avoid conflicts of interest.
•They must maintain the confidentiality of the information provided during the review process and comment only on the scientific content.
•Reviewers must present their evaluations in a clear, constructive manner and in accordance with the academic standards of the Congress.
Responsibilities of Editors:
•Editors are responsible for ensuring that the evaluation process of the papers is conducted in a transparent and fair manner.
•They must adhere to ethical rules when making final decisions by considering reviewer recommendations.
•In cases of ethical violations, they must carry out the necessary procedures in accordance with COPE decision trees.
Process Management in Cases of Ethical Violations
• In case of suspicion of ethical violation, the process will be managed by following the decision trees recommended by COPE.
•Ethical violations may include the following cases:
• Plagiarism (partial or complete use of another work without proper citation),
• Fabrication of data,
•Misleading authorship (including individuals who did not contribute to the study as authors),
• Failure to declare conflicts of interest.
•In case of detection of a violation, the relevant paper will be withdrawn and the author(s) will be informed.
a. Copyright Transfer
•The copyright of the papers submitted to and accepted by our Congress is deemed to be transferred to the Congress organization.
•All authors provide a declaration of consent regarding the transfer of copyright through the system during submission, via the corresponding author.
•The copyright transfer covers the publication of the Abstract Book and the distribution of the papers under an open access model.
• By transferring copyright, authors are deemed to accept the following:
•The paper does not infringe upon the copyright of any third party.
• The work is original and has not been previously published elsewhere.
b. Publication Rights
• Authors may benefit from the publication opportunities announced on the Congress website under the specified conditions.
•All papers included in the Congress Abstract Book will be published under an open access model in order to enhance international accessibility.
•All papers in the Abstract Book will be assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) and will be made available with long-term access assurance.
•The originality of the content and sources included in the papers is entirely the responsibility of the authors.
•In the event of any copyright infringement, the congress organization does not assume legal or ethical responsibility. All responsibility lies with the authors.
